Location:
Hybrid with Remote consideration.  Open to national applicants of Senegal and Guinea, Sierra Leone and Gambia.

JOB SUMMARY
The primary objective of the Specialist, Safety and Security is to provide safety and security expertise and support to enable the safest and most effective implementation of ChildFund’s programs and activities.  The Specialist, Safety and Security will do this by delivering high-quality security risk management and ensuring that each country is achieving the expected standard.

ChildFund International operates in 19 countries with nine countries in Africa.  The position will primarily focus on four countries in West Africa, ranging from moderate to high risk:  Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, and Sierra Leone.  This role may also include other assignments for the region.

The Specialist, Safety and Security reports to the Sr. Manager, Safety and Security (Africa) and has a close working relationship with the Country Directors, global security team, programs, security focal points, and others.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develops a thorough understanding of the threat environment.
    • Identifies sources and drivers of risk and its impact to achieving program objectives.
    • Develop and facilitate country security risk management plans. Help Country Directors implement and monitor risk treatments.
  • Ensure risk assessments for program areas, new project or emergency response locations are conducted.  This includes awareness of expansion plans and proactively communicating needs early enough to help inform decision-making.
  • Actively promote a culture of incident sharing and risk management.
  • Deliver constant and productive support to Country Directors and security focal points.
  • Execute high quality and interactive training (i.e., risk assessments, SOP implementation, etc.) aligned with the global strategy and training criteria.
  • Promote international travel security standards and ensure countries are knowledgeable and can execute travel security standards.
  • Responsible for information management during a critical event and maintaining all notes, logs, and information.
  • Develops quality briefings, reports, alerts and advisories.
  • Maintain the security training register.
    • Perform surge capacity in region during sudden-onset critical events.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
Required:

  • Proficiency in spoken and written English and French fluency required.
  • Able to travel 40% of the time.
  • University degree in a related field with a minimum of five (4) years of working experience in security/risk management with a non-governmental organization or other international organization.
  • Able to work in a matrix reporting structure.
  • Strong cross-cultural skills required.

Preferred:

  • Experience living in another culture and a high-risk environment.
  • INSSA regional security certification or ASIS certification.
  • Training of Trainers certification or adult learning skills training certification.
